Narrative

Vocational Ventures is a combination of two programs serving individuals ages 22 through adulthood with mild to moderate developmental disabilities. The program receives funding through the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services and Day Habilitation. The Mid-Vocational Ventures program provides support for individuals with more support needs but who can actively benefit from the Vocational Ventures model.

Vocational Ventures serves nearly fifty-five individuals with mild to moderate cognitive delays.  These individual participate in a rigorous weekly schedule that includes functional academics, community based volunteer sites, public transportation training, fitness 4 days per week at the local YWCA and many community service projects.

Petalworks serves 45 individuals with multiple special needs.  Most individuals have severe cognitive delays as well as orthopedic or medical conditions that impact learning.  The program day is focused on a series of learning stations that include such options as fitness, arts and crafts, book clubs, computer skills, walking clubs, social language and domestic skills.   The focus of programming at Petalworks is to maximize individuals’ strengths while involving them in functinoal activities that teach real life skills..  All individuals are expected to participate to maximal ability in all activities

Coastal Connections offers an evening Academics for Living program every other week from September through May.  Individuals work in small groups on functional reading, math and computer skills.  Referrals for this program come through the local DDS area office.

Coastal Connections offers day habilitation through the Division of Medical Assistance, Community based day supports through the Department of Developmental Services and Individual support options
