Advocates Shared Living matches people with disabilities to members of the community who provide care at home, much like a family member. People gain greater independence and opportunities for an active lifestyle in the community. They have the support and companionship of someone who cares for them at home. Our team works closely with people and their families to arrange living situations that truly feel like home. We’re guided by their wishes, interests, and needs. They are empowered to make choices about where they want to live and with whom.

Community members who serve as caregivers in Shared Living are dedicated to supporting their new roommates in a variety of ways:

• they create a safe home setting
• they encourage people to participate in the community and form relationships
• they support their goals and dreams
• they assist with daily routines and activities

Shared Living is funded by several Massachusetts state agencies including the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC), Massachusetts Commission for the Blind (MCB), and others.

If you are interested in Shared Living at Advocates, our staff is available to help you coordinate eligibility with the appropriate state agency. Private pay opportunities are also available.
