General Info
Narrative
BHN’s Shared Living program provides in-home placement for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) with welcoming people and families in their community. These long-term placements give structure that allows the person to live a meaningful life at home and to thrive in their community independently.
Shared Living Providers are compassionate caregivers that support the unique needs of the person. They help with everyday needs that include:
- meal preparation
- medication management
- money management
- transportation
Like typical families, they engage in social events and community activities together.
BHN’s careful screening process ensures living situations are compatible based upon the person’s and provider’s interests and values. BHN provides training, support, and monthly oversight along with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and a generous tax-free stipend.
