Narrative

From social skills development and recreational activities to employment support and vocational training, our goal is to empower individuals with disabilities to live their lives to the fullest. We focus on friendships, inclusivity, and strength-based learning, and are dedicated to community building and meaningful engagement.

F.A.R.M (Friendships & Activities Really Matter) CBDS, Hatfield, MA:

A farm and community based active lifestyle day program committed to outdoor and animal focused adventures and experiential learning. Participants will build physical endurance and improve social skills through participation in fitness activities, outdoor recreation, community outings and farm work.

Skillbuilders Makerspace+ CBDS, Chicopee, MA:

An art, technology and engineering space and day program where people with common interests can meet, learn, socialize, and collaborate. Participants will grow creatively and improve social skills while engaging in arts including pottery and painting, technology including 3-D printers and computers and engineering featuring a Lego Studio, robotics, and model cars. Participants will also have weekly opportunities to visit Prospect Meadow Farm for a special therapeutic animal engagement activity.

Prospect Meadow Farm, Hatfield & Pittsfield, MA:

This social enterprise working farm empowers physically, mentally, developmentally, and economically challenged individuals to find meaningful activity through work in agriculture related fields. Participants work on small crews engaging in livestock care, field work, farm carpentry, landscaping and many other tasks related to local agriculture. Participants have an opportunity for 3-4 hours of paid work each day. Late afternoon includes activities ranging from soft and hard employment skills training to social skills development.

Rooster Café & Culinary Training Program, Northampton & Hatfield, MA:

The culinary training program offers paid training to participants interested in cooking and food preparation. Participants learn skills including safe knife handling, food safety and allergen awareness and working with recipes. Once a week participants engage in a “instructional” day that includes meeting other culinary professionals, furthering social skills and team building skills. As participants advance through the training process, they become eligible for work at our Rooster Café, a social enterprise farm to table café serving lunch to the Northampton community.

PMF Carpentry Program, Hatfield MA:

The carpentry training program provides paid training to individuals interested in the building trades. Facilitated by a skilled carpentry instructor participants learn skills ranging from basic tool safety to using advanced power tools and equipment. Participants are part of a small cohort that will progress through the training together while furthering social skills and connections.
