Narrative

Provides advocacy services on behalf of more than 130 individuals with intellectual disability and/or developmental disabilities living throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Through this program, the organization provides legal guardianship for people who require additional levels of assistance, advocacy, and protections to assure that their desires, wishes and needs are respected, addressed, and met. The organization’s guardianship services are based upon seeking the least restrictive level of guardianship to ensure that the person served retains as much personal control as possible. The Guardianship Program provides both permanent and temporary guardianship services, ranging from partial guardianship (i.e. medical, financial, Roger’s Monitoring, etc) to full permanent guardianship.

Our Guardianship Services include:

  • Temporary Services (time limited, usually involving a specific area or matter)
  • Medical Guardianship (limited to healthcare & medical decisions)
  • Financial Guardianship (conservator, limited to financial decisions)
  • Roger’s Monitor (Limited to decisions involving the treatment with antipsychotic medications)
  • Guardianship of the Person (broad scope of decision-making authority, some limitations as defined by decree, regulation, & law)

People seek professional guardianship services for many reasons. Often our services are sought when immediate family members or other relatives are no longer able or available to provide continual direct assistance and essential oversight of a person’s needs.
