Narrative
The United Arc provides a flexible array of services for families that care for or include a family member with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
- Funded through The Department of Developmental Disabilities with additional funding from Bete Foundation.
- Support Services Centers Provide an array of supports are available to families caring for a family member who meets eligibility criteria with the Department of Developmental Services (DDS).
Agency with Choice- Family Day Program
This contract supports families in allowing their adult child to remain at home as typical day programs do not meet their specialized needs. AWC Day provides 1:1 and/or 2:1 supports (if needed) for each individual to meet goals specific to their needs; usually focused on community inclusion and social skill building to expand their social circles.
Agency with Choice- Residential Day Program
This contract is a new pilot program for DDS. The aim of this program is very similar to the AWC Family Day Program, whereas we are providing direct supports to each individual, as outlined above, to gain community inclusion opportunities and support them in widening their social circles and opportunities. This program coordinates with multiple residential homes, DDS and our own team supporting individuals who are who may be medically complex, or have specific behavioral needs/plans that require 1:1 or 2:1 supports to access their communities spaces.
Agency with Choice- Home Respite Program
This program supports families by providing a support system for them to have overnight coverage and or weekend in home supports for the parents/guardians to work night shifts or have some time to themselves for a few hours
Primary supports offered are:
- service navigation
- support in how to obtain services
- information and referral
- family trainings and support groups
- community connections
- social / recreational opportunities
- educational and service advocacy
- Families prioritized by DDS may also be able to access short-term financial assistance to pay for goods and services that benefit the individual with a disability.
- Additional supports include AWC/DESE and Intensive Flexible Family Support Services (IFFS).
