Narrative

Day Habilitation at Charles River Center provides a structured, goal-oriented program for adults with complex communication, medical and therapeutic needs. Our day habilitation programs are housed in our spacious, updated main building in Needham, MA. Our Center is fully accessible with wide halls leading to spacious, bright group rooms, a fully accessible kitchen and large activity rooms.

At CRC, we consider our staff to be lifelong coaches. With the person’s interests in mind, activity choices may include:

  • music
  • arts & crafts
  • cooking
  • computer and iPad time
  • games
  • gardening and
  • exercise activities

Community outings to the library and local parks are built into each weekly schedule. We work on therapeutic goals while having fun around Needham. Day hab members may also choose to do group volunteering for Meals on Wheels and local food pantries.

The program is housed in a beautiful state-of-the-art facility in Needham that is completely accessible. It meets all ADA standards. Program members have use of:

  • Spacious group rooms
  • Wide halls
  • Fitness and physical therapy rooms
  • A sensory room
  • A large cafeteria
  • Teaching kitchen
  • Terrace and raised garden

People who attend the Day Habilitation program are under the supervision of trained professionals that include:

  • nursing staff
  • a management team
  • physical therapists
  • behavioral therapists
  • occupational therapists
  • speech therapists

Based on a team approach with their input, a detailed plan is developed for each person. These plans outline goals that will be worked on to improve skills and the person’s physical well-being.

With the individual’s interests in mind, the program offers:

  • Music therapy
  • Art
  • Cooking
  • Computer and iPad use
  • Gardening
  • Zumba
  • Exercise
  • Community outings are also incorporated into weekly schedules so that all can work on specific therapeutic objectives while having fun in the community.

ACES (Adult Community Experiences and Services)

A program within Day Habilitation for those with autism, people in the ACES program use daily community experiences to learn life skills. By volunteering a few times a week with local nonprofits, people in this program are able to contribute toward improving the community while learning life skills.

We have worked with the Dedham Food Pantry, Traveling Meals, and Ethos Elder Service, as as well as many other organizations.
