Narrative
The aim of Day Habilitation Programs is to increase an individual’s independence and ability to assume adult social roles through developmental skills training and clinical supports.
Berkshire County Arc operates three Day Habilitation programs. Our programs are located in Dalton, Pittsfield and Lee, Massachusetts. We support more than 150 individuals at the three locations.
Annually, we work with each individual to create a Day Habilitation Service Plan (DHSP). This plan is an integrated individual support plan which consists of coordinated, goal oriented services for every person we support. Our qualified and licensed therapeutic staff (which includes a Physical Therapist, an Occupational Therapist and Speech and Language Pathologists) may make specific recommendations to address each person’s needs. Each person receives nursing support as well. Our outstanding and dedicated support staff work to provide skills training to each individual in the following developmental areas:
- Self- help
- Communication
- Sensory motor and mobility
- Independent living
- Social development
- Affective development
- Behavior development
Our objective is to improve each participant’s level of functioning and facilitate their ability to live in the community. In addition, we assist people by monitoring each person’s health status and providing coordination with other health care professionals. We also assist people with activities of daily living. Our programs are accredited by CARF (Council on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) and we are licensed by the State of Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS).
