Narrative
Employment and Day Services is funded through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS), Mass. Rehabilitation Commission (MRC), Mass. Commission for the Blind (MCB), and private funding.
For adults over 22, we provide job development based on the interests and needs of people. Professional counselors use a variety of models to evaluate skills and wants to help each person obtain meaningful, paid employment. Once evaluated, a job counselor provides one-to-one job coaching and training to make sure the person is prepared and can comfortably and successfully perform the job independently. After placement, our skilled job counselors provide ongoing support to make sure each person progresses and reaches his or her full potential.
We offer a variety of programs within 3 different tracks to fit the needs and desires of each individual:
Employment: The goal for people on this track is to find and maintain individual paid community jobs. Trainings and groups are focused on the development of work ability, resume building, and professionalism. For those who are not quite independent, we offer a variety of skill building activities and community based opportunities to help prepare the Individual for competitive employment.
Life Skill Development: For people who want to improve life skills, continue education, and be active members of their community. The goal is to provide a wide variety of curriculum and community volunteer activities which will encourage new and improved experiences for people. The people focusing on this track may not be fully interested or ready for employment. They may require some additional supports in their quest for independence.
Leisure/Retirement: This track is focused on people who are looking for a less intensive program experience. We focus on volunteering, social relationships and having fun, both within the community and at the program.
All of the above programs include:
- Life/social skills development
- Educational groups
- Health and wellness education
- Individualized goal development
- Community volunteerism and recreation
- Positive behavioral support
- Horticulture (gardening and lawn care)
